Join our Behavioral Assessment team in this unique tech role.

Although Children's Wisconsin does not provide inpatient psychiatric treatment, members of this team support our inpatient unit teams in providing best and safest care for medical patients who may require mental health support and crisis prevention and de-escalation interventions. Techs will partner with a Behavioral Health RN from this Assessment team.

Assist in the integration and provision of mental and behavioral health services provided to patients and families in patient care settings. Be a role model and promote collaboration and communication among members of the health care team, and provide interventions that support the safety and therapeutic care for mental and behavioral health needs.

  • ​Prefers additional related education in nursing, social work, or mental and behavioral health field. Requires at least High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience with developmental disa bilities and/or mental and behavioral health care preferred.
  • Prefer candidates with prior experience working with child/adolescent patients/clients
  • Requires High school diploma or GED. Pursuit of education in nursing, social work, or mental and behavioral health field preferred
  • Experience with developmental disabilities and/or mental and behavioral health care strongly preferred.
  • Person who can adapt to complex situations and respond effectively in crisis situation
  • Person who has the ability to learn about medical complexities and have the ability to collaborate with medical teams by discussing patient behavior and subsequent interventions utilized for patient care
  • Person who can provide direct behavioral support to the behavioral needs of patients
  • Person who can communicate behavioral concepts clearly to others who may not have behavioral knowledge. 
  • Uses time efficiently and productively; prioritizing multiple tasks properly to meet deadlines; recognizes time constraints and adjusts work schedule to address them
  • Knowledge of regulations, procedures and best practices in field
  • Professional knowledge and ability sufficient to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the position 
  • Takes responsibility for guiding others' actions and providing direction to a group; steps forward to take the lead in addressing difficult issues and making tough judgment calls 
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), e-mail, and internet 
  • Meticulously keeps track of details without becoming overwhelmed by them; is exact, precise, and accurate; spots minor imperfections or errors and takes action to correct them 
  • Pursues work with little supervision or assistance 
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to independently work through details of a problem to reach a positive solution 
  • Excellent verbal, written and/or interpersonal communication skills 
  • Employees may:
    Be exposed to bodily fluids (e.g. tears, saliva, blood).
    Ongoing risk of vicarious trauma by providing services to a population that carriers a high burden of injury through experiencing adversity and violence.
    Need to move from furniture to floor or engage in play-type activities with children in a variety of room types (exam, interviewing, therapy).
    Need to verbally de-escalate upset children, adolescents, or adults.
    Need to adapt approaches or communication styles to fit the needs of the clinic and patient population.
